High Rise and Red Umbrella

We were walking along a street in Philadelphia, PA, when I spotted a lone red umbrella. I pointed it out to Bill and since I didn't have a telephoto with me and Bill did, he grabbed this shot.

Bill and I have shot a lot of pictures of City Hall in Philadelphia. In 2005, Bill, began looking at the city's building a little differently.

Root Cellar

Brandywine Battlefield Park

Chadds Ford, PA

Last year Bill and I spent a June weekend get-a-way in Chadds Ford, PA. One of the places we stopped was Brandywine Battlefield Park. The park has two historic buildings, Washington's Headquarters at one end and Lafayette's Headquarters at the other. This root cellar was also in the park. This is Bill's image of the root cellar and it reminds me of an excellent scene to paint as a water color.

City Patterns

Footsin' in the city walking right, then left stopping at the traffic light. Do we go straight or turn? Pick a way and follow your foot steps to who knows where. Bill saw the patterns in the highrise against the blue sky. If we hadn't been walking he might never have seen the picture.

Penn's Landing

Philadelphia, PA

For as long as Bill and I have been going to Philadelphia, PA, we have enjoyed sitting along the river at Penn's Landing. Bill liked the pattern of the steps and at the top this man standing with his foot on a light post just enjoying the moment.

Red Roofs

Cape May, NJ

We were staying at the Atlas in Cape May, NJ, when Bill went out on our porch and shot a photo of these red roofs. He decided to make the roofs redder and allowed the sky and water to become bluer.

Sculler

Philadelphia, PA

I've always been interested in Thomas Eakins painting of "Max Schmitt in a Single Scull". I had hoped over the years to capture a similar image in photograph. This is my version of a single sculler opposite Boat House Row. I darkened up the boat houses so that the only the backs of the houses and lone sculler are lit.

Taking a tour of City Hall in Philadelphia, PA is fascinating and beautiful. The works of both the architect, John McArthur, and the sculpter Alexander Milne Calder are wonderful and go together so well. Walk the outside or take the elevator to just below Calder's statue of William Penn and enjoy the view.

The Old and the New

30th Street Station and Cira Centre

Philadelphia, PA

We followed Pine Street from Front to the Schuylkill River and found these beautiful but vastly different architectural styles, 30th Street Station built in the late 20's and early 30's and the Cira Centre built 2002-2004. Add to the beauty Market Street Bridge which crosses the river at 30th Street.

Capitol Dome

Trenton, NJ

Two years ago we took the River Link to Trenton, NJ. There was snow on the ground and we decided to spend some of our time indoors. We took the tour of the State House. At one point we found ourselves standing under the dome. Bill looked up and liked the circular shapes. He cropped it for the blog so that only the dome is visible.

East Point Lighthouse, NJ

We took a drive down to East Point Lighthouse. As we were walking around the light I watched the sun pass behind and liked the silhouette.

Market Street Bridge

Philadelphia, PA

There are many things about Philadelphia that I love. One, of course, is being there walking the streets with my husband and photographing all her beauty. Footsin' in Philadelphia one day brought us to the Market Street Bridge. I've always said that Bill has a keener eye for patterns, lines and colors in photograhy then I do. He saw this statue attached to the side of the Market Street Bridge, the arch underneath and the colors that formed on the sides of the bridge brought about by water dripping over the edge. In the dark room (read on the computer) he was able to bring out the contrast between light and dark.

Looking Toward Ben Franklin Bridge and NJ

Philadelphia, PA

It was the winter of 2003 and we'd had snow and the Delaware River had large chunks of ice floating as the tide moved back and forth. We had to be careful of where we walked as snow was still piled on city sidewalks. Bill and I decided to take the tour of City Hall tower. It was awesome as we looked north up Broad Street then East toward the bridge and NJ. Bill took the above photo by getting real close to the window trying to take out the glare. What a great feeling to look up at the hand on the Billy Penn statue by Alexander Milne Calder. We were so close, the hand so big.

National Constitution Center, Philadelphia, PA

Walk along Independence Mall and view an ever changing landscape. The 21st century's architecture blending with the 18th century architecture to form art both past and present.

Planetarium, Trenton, NJ

A few years ago we decided to take New Jersey Transit's River Link to Trenton where we walked among the state's grand buildings. Footsin in New Jersey's Capital.

Footsin time in Philly. We walk around Old City and find great architectural gems.

Merchants' Exchange, Philadelphia, PA

Philadelphia, PA, has so many places that excite the mind when it comes to photography. There are so many architectural gems to capture on film. The Merchants' Exchange a Greek Revival building, its circular design is one example, the work of a 19th century architect, William Strickland.

Boathouse Row, Philadelphia, PA

The Schuylkill River runs by it. Scullers leave from its shelters. Taking to the water they row up and down the river finally returning to Boathouse Row.

State Capitol, Harrisburg, PA

Another archetectural gem from the state of Pennsylvania. A beautiful white Capitol against the blue sky.

One of the most beautiful buildings in the United States. Atop the tower sits the statue of William Penn by sculptor Alexander Milne Calder.
