City Bikes
Philadelphia, PA

Over the years I have found that I love taking photographs of bicycles. There are always bikes locked to the railing on boardwalks down the shore. I have a collection of these images. The bikes may old or new, colorful, adult or children's bikes. The pictures have been taken from different shore towns. A few years ago, I began to photograph bikes found in Philadelphia, PA. This bike caught my attention by the way it was locked in an upright position along a fence.

Reflections
Philadelphia, PA

Bill went off to the city alone. I can't remember why. It had rained earlier in the morning and after it had stopped Bill caught these reflections in the puddle.

High Rise and Red Umbrella
Philadelphia, PA

We were walking along a street in Philadelphia, PA, when I spotted a lone red umbrella. I pointed it out to Bill and since I didn't have a telephoto with me and Bill did, he grabbed this shot.

Man as Both Good and Evil
Philadelphia, PA

This bark is that of the Ginko tree. I found one on 2nd Street in Philadelphia, PA. I cropped the image until I had what I wanted and then I did something else. I deleted all of the image around the main picture making it black. As the picture evolved, I imagined that the center face with the open mouth and a bit of a sky nose as a politician. Then in the lower right I had this masked figure. At the top of the head is a man with an emblem on his shirt. I was reminded of a crusader during the holy wars. I now had my final image and I simply call it "Man as Both Good and Evil".

Rock Dove
Philadelphia, PA

There are pigeons all over the world. They invite you to feed them. Cities are always trying to control the population so, it wasn't surprising to find them (the pigeons) hanging around us while we ate our lunch outdoors. We were surpirsed when the police officer from several hundred yards away looks at us and yells "You better not be feeding them". Bill and I plead the 5th.

The Jazz King
Philadelphia, PA

Bill and I made a trip to Philadelphia and found ourselves walking around "Olde City". I was outside City Tavern on Second Street looking at the bark of a tree. I have no idea what the tree is called but I do like its bark patterns. Tourists must have thought I was a little strange taking closeups of the bark. This image is one from that bark.

Iron Fence
Penn's Landing
Philadelphia, PA

Last year we went over to Philadelphia for a bit of walking or footsin' around Society Hill and Penn's Landing. Several years ago they built the Hyatt Regency at Penn's Landing and the Delaware River. Bill found this beautiful fence along the back of the hotel and a flower sticking threw the fence. Is it rear or memorex?

Flags
Vietnam War Memorial
Philadelphia, PA
Tomorrow we honor those who served in our Armed Forces. Throughout the country big and small towns will hold solemn ceremonies, shake hands or slap comrades on the back. They will reminisce about their time in the service. There will be a gathering at Philadelphia's Vietnam War Memorial. It will be nice for those who attend.

City Patterns
Philadelphia, PA
Footsin' in the city walking right, then left stopping at the traffic light. Do we go straight or turn? Pick a way and follow your foot steps to who knows where. Bill saw the patterns in the highrise against the blue sky. If we hadn't been walking he might never have seen the picture.

Steps
Penn's Landing
Philadelphia, PA

For as long as Bill and I have been going to Philadelphia, PA, we have enjoyed sitting along the river at Penn's Landing. Bill liked the pattern of the steps and at the top this man standing with his foot on a light post just enjoying the moment.

Colonial Garden
Philadelphia, PA
There are many gardens in Philadelphia. There is the Azalea Garden off Kelly Drive, the Rose Garden off Walnut or The Colonial Garden also off Walnut. There are garden tours and there are public buildings where one can feast their eyes on beautiful flowers. Philadelphia even boasts of a Japanese Garden. One place that is nice and offers a little quiet is the Colonial Garden. For ever so brief a time the city disappears.

Bench
Azalea Garden
Philadelphia, PA

We have to wait to get through March. I long for the warm breezes and sitting on benches behind the art musuem in Philadelphia. Sometimes we sit and read in the Azalea Garden or walk along Kelly Drive. Warm spring is coming. Can it get here sooner?

Sculler
Philadelphia, PA

I've always been interested in Thomas Eakins painting of "Max Schmitt in a Single Scull". I had hoped over the years to capture a similar image in photograph. This is my version of a single sculler opposite Boat House Row. I darkened up the boat houses so that the only the backs of the houses and lone sculler are lit.
