I've decided that I have become a photographic illustrator. No that's not right either. So what do I call this, computerized or digital photography? By taking my photos and playing with the color or contrast or even the brightness, I feel like I am creating a different art form then photography. I like to see and feel the tecture that I've brought out in these pictures. I've even begun anticipating a change in the original image. I crop, put more warmth into the image, crop again until I see something that I had not imagined when I took the original image. I look forward to it and enjoy it. That's what I did with "Clam Shell".

Whelk

The shell was years in the making. Finally after floating along the bottom a wave bounced it onto the beach where I found it and photographed it. The sand and holes in the shell give it a really granny affect. I made it warmer looking. After I was finished with this version I cropped the inside and that is the abstract I showed yesterday.

Clams and Shells

Sometimes when we hear that there is going to be a storm off our coast we head down to the shore. This time my father had been down to the Casinos and when he got back he called to tell us that we should get down there and see all the clam shells along the beach. We went. This photo is from that day. There were piles of shells and gulls feasting on the dead clams.

Footsin down the beach we found lots of seaweed and shells after a winter storm passed by. Among some seaweed was a necklace that made up the whelk egg capsules.

Another day at the Jersey Shore, Atlantic City, NJ. Footsin' at the edge of the water. Stopping to check out the shells. Photographed one and pocketed another. Home again to the computer to work some magic.

Shells, Atlantic City, NJ

Footsin can be done anywhere. The city, woods or at the Jersey Shore. In winter, alone on the beach, with the crowds sunbathing we can walk for miles along the waters edge stopping to take photographs of what we find along the way.
